Life in the Big City

Dear Mr Sandman,

It's mentally exhausting travelling 25 miles to work so 50 miles in total per day, it's actually the same distance as Miss French travelling to meet us for a girls' day/night. Share some wisdom on how you do it?

And yes, I have a job. The pay isn't fabulous but it's with a new establishment which lies on the edge of the industry I want to have a career in. Obviously during the interview, I was talking in circles so the Director knows that I'm not just there to make contacts - I WILL be working my ass off. I'm sure he has sensed what my true goal is as he mentioned about the possibility of transferring me to the sister company and they deal with  productions. I guess I have my work cut out. And I made no lies, honesty is the best policy because they will suss it out or like my Uncle said, "you need a million other lies just to cover one."

After my interview on the Wednesday, it was agreed that I could "work" until Friday and then officially start my internship on Monday. There were many reasons for this: for me, it was to see if it was possible for me to get into the office and home at a reasonable time (and it's possible as long as I don't do any overtime) plus to understand the company, and whether I can fit into the culture. This is a hard one because he didn't really get to see my personality and attitude and to be quite honest whoever did, definitely didn't see the true me as in the morning I'm still asleep. The closest he got to see the real me was after my lunch, myself and an intern were practicing Tai Chi. He didn't tell us off so I guess he didn't mind??? One thing I have learnt from working anywhere, it is a job which pays for bills but it's the attitude towards it that makes your environment into something else.

I do get paid, and it works out that 3 days of pay pretty much covers my travel expenses of the month. Yes, it's very expensive. Not happy about that. And moving out is definitely not an option especially when my Aunt is making my packed lunch so I'm saving money there - my friend who introduced me to this company, Mr Silver Suit didn't understand why I was bringing packed lunch. He has two jobs. I only have this. Silly!! Us two don't quite gel but I think it's because of our different attitude towards a professional practice. Nevertheless, we do keep each other company and less homesick (for him).

Sleep, sleep and sleep.
